Yorkshire and Derbyshire back stools from the early 18th century are characterised by their regional vernacular style, featuring distinctive shaped and pierced crest rails with carved scrollwork and wooden plank seats.

These chairs are traditionally constructed from solid English oak, joined using mortise and tenon construction secured with wooden pegs, often featuring turned legs and stretcher bases for stability.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate tool marks, hand-carved details with regional variations, timber shrinkage, authentic patination, and traditional joinery methods consistent with the early 1700s.

Antique oak chairs can be paired with a contemporary minimalist dining table to create a striking contrast, or used as accent seating in a study or hallway to highlight their sculptural wooden backs.

Preserve antique oak by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the wood finish.
