This sorcerer's mirror originates from 1880 in the Regency style, taking the form of a wall mirror designed for a gentleman's library or a narrow wall space. The piece uses glass, wood, and gold leaf, finished in black and gold through ebonised moulding and a gilt sight edge. The glass surface displays convex glass lenses and circular convex glass cabochons arranged in a central ring, complemented by the rectangular wooden frame. General wear is visible on the surface, including faint marks along the black mouldings. The mirror measures 24 cm high, 29 cm wide, and 3 cm deep. Suitable for domestic placement in a hallway, study, or living area, the mirror hangs flush against an interior wall to reflect light and space. The compact proportions allow placement in confined architectural sections where larger wall art or mirrors cannot fit. The contrasting monochrome frame and reflective decorative elements integrate into both period interiors and contemporary settings.

A sorcerer mirror, historically known as a miroir de sorciere or witch mirror, is a style of reflective wall panel featuring convex glass cabochons or curved reflective glass designed to disperse light and reflect wide angles.

Traditional pieces feature blown convex glass plates or embedded glass cabochons set into flat mirrors, housed within timber frames finished with ebonised moulding and gold leaf gilding.

Authentic period pieces display slight optical distortions within the convex glass lenses, mercury or silvering wear on the reverse plate, timber backing, and age-related wear on the gilt and ebonised surfaces.

A sorcerer mirror serves as a focal wall accent when hung within a gallery wall arrangement, placed above a sideboard, or positioned in a hallway to refract light and add visual interest.

Dust the frame regularly with a dry soft brush and clean the glass using a lightly dampened microfibre cloth, taking care not to allow liquids to contact the gilding or timber joins.
