The George II style, popular during the mid-18th century, is characterised by architectural symmetry, scrolled pediments, fretwork details, and the frequent use of rich veneers like burr walnut or mahogany.

Authentic period pieces typically feature pine or oak carcasses overlaid with finely figured wood veneers, hand-cut fretwork crestings, and often retain their original hand-silvered glass plates.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, secondary wood types, backboards, fixings, and the nature of the foxing or oxidisation on the mirror plate to distinguish period copies from modern reproductions.

Pairing this traditional piece with minimalist contemporary furniture or hanging it against a boldly painted wall creates a sophisticated focal point that balances historic character with modern design.

Dust the wooden frame gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid chemical polishes. Clean the mirror glass using a neutral glass cleaner applied to a cloth rather than directly sprayed onto the surface.
