FAQs

The Regency style spans the early 19th century, drawing heavy inspiration from neoclassical Greece, Rome, and Egypt, characterised by clean lines, classical proportions, and sophisticated ornamentation such as ormolu and brass inlay.

Cabinet makers predominantly utilised exotic dense hardwoods like rosewood and mahogany, often accented with contrasting brass marquetry, gilt metal mounts, and woven cane or rush for seats.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate joinery methods, hand-cut brass inlay rather than modern stamped brass, natural ageing of the timber, and traditional hand-woven cane work without synthetic bonding agents.

Placing a historical piece against a minimalist backdrop creates a striking focal point, allowing the craftsmanship and intricate brass detailing to contrast effectively with modern clean lines.

Keep the wood nourished with appropriate microcrystalline wax and maintain stable indoor humidity levels to prevent the fragile natural cane seat from drying out and splitting.
