Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian cabinets from the 19th century frequently feature rich veneers, notably burr or figured walnut and mahogany, combined with solid craftsmanship and functional yet ornate designs intended for middle and upper-class domestic interiors.

These pieces typically utilise a secondary softwood carcass, such as pine or oak, overlaid with expertly sliced decorative wood veneers like figured walnut. Construction methods often include hand-cut dovetail joints on internal drawers and mortise and tenon joints on the frame.

Authenticity is indicated by period-correct joinery, natural patination on the timber, hand-cut screws, and original hardware such as brass escutcheons and working lever locks. Examining the interior construction and secondary woods helps verify age against modern reproductions.

Place the cabinet on a surface such as a sideboard or large desk to allow its rich timber grain to provide a textural contrast against neutral walls and contemporary decor, creating a focal point that bridges historical interest with modern minimalism.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer splitting and fading. Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and occasionally apply a quality beeswax polish to nourish the wood without building up heavy residues.
