Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Correspondence boxes emerged during the nineteenth century as essential desktop items for sorting daily mail. During the Arts and Crafts movement, makers prioritized simple geometric forms, prominent grain patterns, and functional hand-crafted fittings over heavy ornate decoration.

These boxes were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or mahogany. Key features often included cast or stamped brass keyhole escutcheons, steel locks, and silver-plated or brass slot plates for mail categorization.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut dovetail or mortise-and-tenon joinery, original brass hardware with natural surface oxidisation, and operational steel locks. Look for period-appropriate markings, carved details, or metal label plates on the lid slots.

Place the box centrally on a home office desk, console table, or hallway sideboard to act as a functional mail holder. Its warm wood tones pair effectively with neutral palettes, modern brass desk lamps, and structured stationery.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year along the wood grain. Avoid placing timber boxes near direct heat sources or in areas of high humidity to prevent wood shrinkage and warping.
