Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Adam style, popularised by architect Robert Adam in the late 18th century, is characterised by Neoclassical symmetry, slender architectural proportions, and classical motifs such as urn finials, husk garlands, acanthus scrolls, and beaded borders surrounding central mirror plates.

Giltwood mirrors from this era were typically hand-carved from softwood frames, coated with layers of gesso plaster, and finished using water gilding with gold leaf. The reflective surfaces comprised silvered glass plates, often sectioned into marginal borders to accommodate 18th-century glass manufacturing limits.

Authentic period pieces exhibit subtle irregularities in hand-carved timber backings, natural oxidisation or greyish toning within the mercury glass, and gentle wear to the gold leaf where the underlying red or yellow bole clay shows through.

A pair of decorative giltwood mirrors can be hung symmetrically to frame an architectural feature, such as a fireplace, or positioned side-by-side above a sideboard or console table to create visual height and reflect ambient light across the room.

Clean giltwood frames using a dry, soft-bristled brush to remove dust without disturbing delicate gesso or leafing. Avoid liquid cleaners or damp cloths on the carved wood, and wipe mirror glass using a slightly dampened lint-free cloth applied carefully to prevent moisture reaching the frame edges.
