FAQs

Antique wall mirrors have been used for centuries, evolving from functional reflective surfaces into decorative statements crafted from fine timbers like walnut and oak during various design periods.

Traditional mirrors typically feature solid wood frames, often utilizing hand-cut joinery, applied veneers, and historical glass plates that display characteristic foxing and silver degradation over time.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural ageing such as foxing in the mirror plate, hand-planed or hand-sawn wood marks on the reverse, and period-appropriate fixings or joinery techniques.

Integrating an antique mirror into a modern space creates a focal point by contrasting historical textures and warm wood tones against minimalist walls and neutral color palettes.

Preservation involves keeping mirrors away from direct sunlight and high humidity, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners on both the wood frame and fragile historic glass, and dusting gently with a soft cloth.
