Ormolu - Gilt Bronze (from French 'or moulu', signifying ground or pounded gold) is an 18th-century English term for applying finely ground, high-carat gold in a mercury amalgam to an object of bronze. The mercury is driven off in a kiln leaving behind a gold-coloured veneer known as 'gilt bronze'.

The manufacture of true ormolu employs a process known as mercury-gilding or fire-gilding, in which a solution of nitrate of mercury is applied to a piece of copper, brass, or bronze, followed by the application of an amalgam of gold and mercury. The item was then exposed to extreme heat until the mercury burned off and the gold remained, adhered to the metal object.

Rosso Carpazi Marble is a material born out of the mountains of Albania. The brown-red ground mass of this beautiful marble is partially brecciated and quite rich with a labyrinth of snow white icing like veins dispersed through out.

This natural stone exudes an element of passion and elegance and is ideal as a special piece on fine furnishings.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An ormolu casket is a decorative storage container featuring gilded bronze castings mounted onto metal or stone bases, widely produced in France during the nineteenth century for high-end interiors.

These caskets were typically constructed from cast bronze that was mercury-gilded to achieve a durable gold finish, often mounted onto sliced veined marble bases with hand-chased relief work.

Authentic period pieces exhibit crisp hand-chased detail, substantial structural weight, natural thread variations in underlying screws, and gentle oxidisation in recessed areas.

Place the casket as a refined focal point on an executive office desk, library sideboard, or fireplace mantelpiece to introduce warm metallic tones and historical texture.

Maintain the finish by dusting lightly with a dry microfibre cloth or soft brush, avoiding water, chemical solvents, or abrasive metal polishes that can degrade gilding.
