This Victorian neoclassical wall mirror dates from 1880 and takes an oval form with a reflective glass plate. The piece is constructed from giltwood and gesso, finished in a bright gold colour across the entire structure. The central bevelled glass plate is set within an oval frame decorated with fine beaded moulding, surrounded by applied flower garlands and hanging leaf swags that drape from the sides and bottom. Surmounting the top of the frame is an elaborate classical urn finial flanked by trailing floral swags suspended from wire loops. Additional carved ornamentation details the square plinth beneath the urn and the base of the frame. The mirror measures 89 cm high by 54 cm wide with a depth of 4 cm. Today, this decorative wall mirror provides a striking focal point when hung above a mantelpiece in a living room, drawing room, or hallway.
