Windsor chairs originated in England during the early 18th century, characterised by a central wooden seat into which the legs, back, and arms are separately inserted.

They were typically constructed using a combination of timbers, commonly featuring an elm seat for strength, ash or beech for the bent bow and spindles, and fruitwood or pine for the legs.

Authentic pieces often show evidence of traditional joinery such as wedged through-tenons, hand- turned components with slight irregularities, and natural patina resulting from decades of wear.

They provide functional seating or architectural contrast when placed in living spaces, studies, or nurseries, grounding modern rooms with historical character and natural texture.

Maintain them by keeping them away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood splitting, occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
