FAQs

A smokers bow is a type of low-backed Windsor armchair, often featuring a continuous curved backrail supported by turned spindles, traditionally used in smoking rooms, pubs, and country homes.

These chairs were typically constructed using a combination of native timbers, featuring a solid elm or fruitwood saddle seat combined with beech or ash for the turned spindles, legs, and bentwood bow.

Authentic period pieces exhibit traditional joinery such as wedged through-tenons, hand-turned components with minor tool irregularities, natural timber shrinkage, and accumulated patination on the seat.

This seating piece functions effectively as a desk chair or an accent seat in a living room, adding textural contrast and historical depth when paired against minimalist or modern furnishings.

Preserve the timber by keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent cracking, applying occasional applications of traditional beeswax to nourish the dry surface.
