Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A triptych mirror features a central panel flanked by two hinged side wings, allowing the viewer to adjust the angles for multiple perspectives. Originating as portable altarpieces, the design was adapted for domestic dressing furniture during the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly in France.

Authentic pieces from this era typically utilise solid timber frames such as walnut, oak, or fruitwood, often featuring hand-carved decorative motifs and pegged joinery. The glass is historically mercury-silvered or early vacuum-silvered plate glass, frequently showing characteristic foxing and oxidisation along the edges.

Authentication involves examining the reverse for hand-cut tongue-and-groove backing boards, handmade iron or brass hinges, and age-related wear on the mirror plate. True period pieces display natural irregularities in the glass and hand-applied finishes rather than uniform modern machining.

This piece works effectively when positioned to reflect natural light or placed against a neutral wall to anchor a room. The adjustable side wings offer dynamic spatial interplay, making it suitable for reflecting architectural details or artwork.

Preservation requires avoiding direct sunlight and maintaining stable indoor humidity to protect the wooden frame and prevent further degradation of the silvered backing. Cleaning should be done sparingly using a dry or barely damp microfiber cloth, ensuring moisture does not seep behind the glass edge.
