Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency period work boxes are typically crafted from exotic hardwoods such as rosewood or mahogany and often feature sarcophagus-inspired shapes. Common decorative elements include brass foliate marquetry, brass cut-work inlay, gadrooned mouldings, and brass drop handles on carved feet.

These boxes were primarily built using solid mahogany or pine cores veneered with rosewood or zebrawood. Decorative features incorporated cut sheet brass inlays, brass side handles, keyhole escutcheons, and silk or velvet interior linings.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, natural oxidation on brass components, hand-carved mouldings, and original lock mechanisms. The underside and inner drawer linings often reveal period wood saw marks and minor wear consistent with age.

Place the box as a decorative focal point on a console table, dressing table, sideboard top, or bookshelf. It provides functional tabletop storage for small items while adding rich wood tones and historic craftsmanship to contemporary spaces.

Keep the item in a stable environment away from direct sunlight, radiator heat, and excessive humidity to prevent veneer lifting. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax sparingly, taking care not to snag polished brass inlay edges.
