Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Brass framed mirrors gained significant popularity during the 19th and early 20th centuries, often utilised in Parisian cafes, bistros, and domestic drawing rooms to amplify natural light and create an illusion of space.

Authentic period pieces typically feature a solid brass or brass-plated wooden frame housing silvered float glass or older mercury glass, often assembled with traditional corner joints and a secure wooden backing board.

Authenticity is identified by examining the natural patina and oxidisation on the metal, the presence of foxing or minor blemishes within the glass plate, and period-appropriate fixings or joinery on the reverse.

Styling an antique brass mirror in a modern space involves hanging it above a minimalist fireplace mantel, a sleek console table, or placing it strategically opposite a window to reflect daylight and add warmth.

Preservation requires dusting the frame with a soft, dry cloth and cleaning the glass sparingly with a mild, ammonia-free glass cleaner applied to a cloth rather than sprayed directly onto the surface to protect the historic silvering.
