Tunbridge Ware refers to wooden decorative items decorated with characteristic mosaic wood inlay, produced primarily in the town of Tunbridge Wells, Kent, from the late 18th century through to the late 19th century.

Pieces are constructed from various native and exotic timbers, using thousands of precisely cut, individually coloured wooden mosaic blocks assembled to form intricate pictorial or geometric scenes.

Authentic pieces feature extremely fine mosaic work made from natural woods without artificial staining, often depicting local landmarks or geometric borders, sometimes bearing the makers label such as Nye or Barton on the base.

These small decorative objects suit placement on a mantelpiece, side table, or inside a glass-fronted cabinet, adding historical texture and a refined touch to eclectic or traditional spaces.

Keep items out of direct sunlight to prevent wood fading and glue degradation, maintain stable indoor humidity levels, and dust gently with a dry, soft cloth without applying liquid polishes or waxes.
