Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in Scotland during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, snuff mulls were specialised containers designed for storing powdered tobacco. The word mull derives from the Scottish word for mill, referencing the grinding process used to prepare the tobacco leaf.

Traditional snuff mulls were primarily crafted from natural horn, particularly ram or cattle horn, due to its durability and natural curvature. The mounts and hinges were commonly constructed from metals such as pewter, silver, or brass.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-cut metal fittings, hand-hammered hinges, and surface wear consistent with age. Look for subtle variations in the horn density, organic curvature, and hand-fitted pewter or silver collars around the opening.

A snuff mull functions as a decorative tabletop object or curiosity within a study, office desk, or bookshelf arrangement. Positioning it alongside leather-bound books, brass instruments, or framed prints emphasises its historic material character.

Horn should be kept away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent drying or warping. Microcrystalline wax can be applied sparingly to protect both the polished horn surface and metal fittings from oxidisation.
