We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian wingback armchair is a high-backed upholstered seat featuring side panels or wings designed during the 18th century. These wings were originally crafted to protect the occupant from draughts and retain heat from a nearby fireplace.

18th-century wingback chairs typically featured solid timber internal frames, frequently crafted from oak or beech, with visible legs made from mahogany or walnut. Internal upholstery traditionally utilized natural horsehair, wool padding, and jute webbing.

Authentic Georgian examples feature hand-joined timber frames with mortise and tenon construction, supported by square or cabriole legs linked by stretchers. Inspection beneath original upholstery often reveals hand-cut timber surfaces and natural patination on unvarnished wood.

Positioning a Georgian wingback chair beside a contemporary floor lamp creates a functional reading corner. Neutral linen or simple geometric fabric upholstery allows the historic form to integrate seamlessly into modern colour schemes.

Vacuum the fabric regularly with a soft brush attachment to remove dust and debris. Position the timber frame away from direct radiators and sunlight to prevent wood movement, joint loosening, and fabric fading.
