We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early 19th-century mirrors typically reflect neoclassical or regency design principles, prioritising classical proportions, restrained architectural mouldings, and often sophisticated water-gilding techniques over heavily ornate baroque flourishes.

These frames were generally constructed from softwoods or hardwoods such as pine or gesso-coated pine, meticulously finished with layers of gold leaf applied over a bole base, housing hand-silvered or early float glass plates.

Authenticity is indicated by the presence of hand-applied gesso, subtle shrinkage cracks in the surface, oxidisation or foxing on the original glass plate, and period-appropriate joinery or backing boards.

An antique gilded mirror serves as a striking focal point when positioned to bounce natural light around a contemporary room, contrasting cleanly against minimalist plaster walls or anchoring a traditional mantel arrangement.

Preservation requires keeping the piece out of direct sunlight and high humidity, dusting gently with a soft dry brush, and avoiding chemical cleaners or moisture entirely on both the delicate gold leaf and the historical glass.
