Wonderful reeded ebony colonial writing slope from the fantastic Victorian era in excellent antique condition. Opening on brass hinges the lid has a handy book slid to keep your paper/ documents in place. The body of the box has compartments for ink and pens with a decorative carved upright and the original black leather writing surface. Both sides of the writing slope open with original ribbons to provide extra storage. The Victorians did love a hidden compartment and this box does have one that houses 3 small drawers with original ribbon handles. The mechanism to reveal these is still in good working order. This is a great example of a Victorian writing slope of fabulous quality that is not only useful but highly decorative that will add a little piece of history to any desk.
