Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A horseshoe desk chair, often referred to as a tub or barrel chair, features a rounded, continuous backrest and armrail that wraps around the sitter in a semicircular shape. Originating in traditional library and office design, these chairs offer structured support and were frequently upholstered in leather with timber spindle galleries.

Antique desk chairs from the late Victorian and Edwardian periods were typically crafted from solid dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut. Upholstery usually consisted of natural hide fixed with individual brass tacks, supported by internal steel coil springs, horsehair padding, and ceramic or brass castors.

Authentic period chairs display signs of age-appropriate wear, including natural patination to the timber and leather surface. Look for traditional construction techniques such as hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, original brass or ceramic castors, hand-driven brass upholstery studs, and natural creasing across original hide.

A mahogany horseshoe desk chair can be incorporated into modern interiors by pairing it with a streamlined contemporary writing desk to create textural contrast. It also works effectively in a quiet corner of a living room or bedroom as an occasional reading chair, bringing warm timber tones and structured leather into a neutral space.

Maintain the timber frame by dusting with a soft cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish periodically. Preserve the leather upholstery using a specialist leather balm or cream to maintain suppleness and prevent cracking, keeping the chair away from direct sunlight and radiators.
