FAQs

Windsor chairs originated in England during the early 18th century, developing from regional stick-back vernacular furniture traditions where spindles were inserted directly into a solid wooden seat.

Traditional construction typically utilised a combination of timbers, often featuring elm for the carved solid seat due to its interlocking grain, ash or oak for the bent parts and legs, and fruitwood or beech for the spindles.

Authentic pieces can be identified by hand-turned components, tool marks on the sculpted seat, wedged tenon joints passing through the seat, and natural wear patterns consistent with age rather than machine-made uniformity.

These versatile chairs can be paired with contemporary dining tables to create a curated, eclectic contrast, or used as a standalone accent piece in a living space to add warmth and tactile texture.

Maintain antique wooden furniture by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sudden humidity fluctuations, and periodically treat the timber with a traditional microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
