An 18th Century Italian Giltwood Overmantel Mirror
£2,650 $3,485 €3,140
A mid 18th century giltwood overmantel mirror, the arched top with pierced crested centre with asymmetrical C scrolls and carved floral motifs, and with a raised pierced toprail, over an arched frame with scrolling floral motifs and hatched sections and with a bold beaded inner edge, around an old arched plate and a wooden back. Italian, probably Roman, circa 1760.
Condition: Excellent, the mirror is in very good condition having recently been restored by a gilder of many year’s experience so the frame is in excellent condition with no marks or losses. The plate is an old mercury plate with discolouration and marks consistent with age, it is possible that the plate is the original, however this is not certain. Otherwise the mirror is a beautiful example with a lovely rich patina and glorious colour.
