Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hall chairs originated in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, designed primarily for visitors waiting in the entryway of stately homes. As they were intended for temporary seating, they were traditionally unupholstered to prevent wear and damage from damp outerwear.

Victorian hall chairs are constructed from dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, featuring solid timber seats without padding. Standard features include hand-carved decorative back panels, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and turned or fluted front legs.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved embellishments showing subtle variations, genuine surface patination on high-touch areas, and traditional construction techniques. Furthermore, the undersides of the timber seats typically display historic tool marks and uneven wood oxidisation.

Antique hall chairs serve as architectural accent pieces in entryways, hallways, or narrow corridors where floor space is limited. They are frequently styled as a pair flanking a console table or placed in a bedroom corner to add architectural structure and timber warmth.

Maintain solid walnut furniture by dusting regularly with a dry, soft lint-free cloth and applying a clear natural beeswax polish twice a year. Keep solid timber pieces away from direct sunlight and heat sources to minimise wood shrinkage and surface checking.
