Cheshire Antiques Consultant Ltd has dated this Chinese Cinnabar Lacquer Box to the 19th Century.

This extraordinary Chinese cinnabar lacquer box is finely detailed high quality. A technique of engraving pattern on a thick layer of red lacquer is applied in this piece. From the lid to the bottom, very detailed multiple geometric & leaf foliage patterns are also hand carved into the background. With an attractive slim rectangle shape. What especially stands out are the colours, the main colour which has a fabulous copper red finish & the interior is turquoise which you will fall in love with.

Although lacquer is used in many Asian cultures, the art of carving lacquer is unique to China.
A nice size being 4.5 cm high and 10 cm wide.
Beautifully made and so collectible and sought after.
Made from mixed materials, wood, lacqueur & enamel.

With beautiful patina.
Circa 19th century Late Qing Dynasty.
Origin from China.
Provenance from an antiques dealer in the middle Shires.
