FAQs

Victorian armchairs are characterised by robust construction, comfortable padding, and often feature turned wooden legs with castors, reflecting an era that prioritised domestic comfort and functional elegance.

These frames were typically constructed from hardwoods such as beech or mahogany, featuring traditional hand-tied coil spring interiors, horsehair or wool stuffing, and finished with hessian webbing and calico interlining.

Authenticity is determined by examining the frame construction, hand-cut joinery, type of screws or nails used, timber ageing, and traditional webbing methods beneath the upholstery layers.

Layering the piece with a patterned throw or contrasting scatter cushions allows the neutral calico base to bridge traditional craftsmanship with modern minimalist or eclectic interior schemes.

Preservation involves keeping the piece away from direct sunlight to prevent timber fading and fabric degradation, gently vacuuming with a soft brush attachment, and maintaining stable indoor humidity levels.
