This large 19th-century Victorian armchair takes the form of a traditional wingback seat with high wings and scroll arms. The framework is made of walnut with rich dark wood tones on the front cabriole legs, which terminate in pad feet and include castors for mobility. The upholstery consists of light grey linen fabric with simple piping along the seams, paired with a high supportive backrest and padded armrests. Measuring 114 cm high, 84 cm wide and 90 cm deep, the seat provides ample space for relaxation in a living room, study or bedroom. The neutral light grey tone and classic English Country House style blend seamlessly with both traditional and contemporary interiors. Position the armchair beside a fireplace or reading corner to create a comfortable focal point in a domestic setting.

Originally designed in 17th-century England, the wingback armchair featuring side wings was created to retain heat from a fireplace and shield occupants from cold draughts.

19th-century wing chairs typically feature solid timber frames such as walnut or mahogany, fitted with coil springs, natural hair padding, and hand-carved legs like cabriole or turned styles.

Look for hand-carved walnut legs showing natural wood grain variation, traditional mortise and tenon joinery beneath the upholstery, and authentic wear on the original castors or foot pads.

Position the chair alongside a minimalist side table and floor lamp in a reading corner to create a balanced contrast between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary accents.

Vacuum the fabric gently using a soft brush attachment, keep the chair away from direct sunlight to prevent fabric fading, and polish the exposed timber legs periodically with natural beeswax.
