A fine early eighteenth century Queen Anne period scarlet and gilt-japanned side chair, C.1710.
 
With a scrolled crest rail above a japanned central panel flanked by caning, raised on angular cabriole legs.
 
Stamped with makers initials EP.
 
For an almost identical pair sold in 2022 see Christies ‘The Ann & Gordon Getty Collection, Volume 4, Lot 577’.
 
Wear consistent with age, with small areas of historic woodworm, caned seat later, decoration possibly refreshed in places. Structurally sound.
