We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian seating from the 19th century typically features robust wooden frames, often made of mahogany or walnut, complemented by generous padding, deep button tufting, and prominent scrolled or carved details.

Authentic pieces were built using solid hardwood frames such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, joined with traditional methods, and stuffed with natural fibres like horsehair, wool, and cotton before being covered in textiles like velvet, damask, or wool.

Authentication involves inspecting the frame construction for hand-cut joints, examining the underside for aged webbing and traditional stuffing materials, and checking the timber for patination, hand-carving marks, and period-appropriate castors.

These chairs can be integrated into contemporary spaces by pairing them with neutral walls and minimalist modern furniture, or by reupholstering them in bold, contemporary fabrics to create a striking focal point.

Preservation requires keeping wooden frames away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood cracking, regular gentle vacuuming of the upholstery with a soft brush attachment, and professional cleaning for delicate textiles.
