Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Typically produced during the Victorian era, these mirrors feature gently curved upper arches paired with decorative wood moulding covered in sculpted gesso. Painted finishes were often applied to complement interior colour palettes or imitate gilded styles.

These mirrors were constructed using a solid pine or lime wood frame, layered with a mixture of plaster powder and animal glue known as gesso. Details were molded or hand-carved into the gesso before paint, silvering, or gilding was applied to the surface.

Authentic pieces generally display natural age-related craquelure or minor cracking within the gesso layer, along with original wood backboards held by handmade nails. Mercury or early silvered glass may show foxing, dark spotting, or minor distortion across the reflective plate.

Large arched mirrors work effectively when leaned against a neutral focal wall, placed above a fireplace mantelpiece, or positioned opposite a window to maximise natural light diffusion. The muted painted finish blends seamlessly with contemporary or classic decor schemes.

Dust the frame gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or horsehair brush, avoiding wet cleaning solutions that can dissolve historic water-based paints or gesso. Clean the mirror glass with a lightly dampened cloth, ensuring moisture does not seep behind the frame borders.
