The Windsor chair originated in rural England during the early 18th century, evolving from vernacular woodworking traditions where individual spindles and legs were wedged directly into a solid sculpted seat.

Authentic chairs typically feature a combination of native timbers, utilising resilient hardwoods like elm or ash for the carved saddle seat, combined with ash or beech for the bentwood bow and turned spindles.

Authentication relies on examining tool marks, hand-turned irregularities, component shrinkage, and the use of traditional joinery such as wedged through-tenons rather than modern metal fixings.

This seating type introduces organic warmth and historical texture, pairing effectively as a contrasting accent piece alongside minimalist modern tables or industrial architecture.

Maintain timber furniture by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive heat fluctuations, periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the grain and protect the original surface finish.
