Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This eighteenth-century Georgian architectural trumeau mirror originates from France and sits within a pedimented panel. The wall mirror has a painted off-white frame constructed from wood, incorporating mirror glass, a triangular pediment, flanking pilasters, an architectural surround, and carved rosettes. The wooden surfaces display visible vertical grain patterns, subtle colour variations in the off-white and pale pink paint finish, and aged wear along the bottom edge. Measuring 147 cm high, 119 cm wide, and 7 cm deep, this rectangular mirror makes a substantial decorative addition to an interior. Homeowners typically place a trumeau mirror above the mantel in a living room, dining room, or bedroom to create a sense of space and light while reflecting the heritage aesthetic of a French chateau interior scheme.

FAQs

A trumeau mirror is a type of decorative wall mirror originating in 18th-century architecture, originally built into wooden wall panelling positioned above a fireplace mantel or set between windows.

These mirrors are typically constructed with solid timber frames and panelling, featuring carved architectural details such as pediments and pilasters, surrounding a mirrored glass insert.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved joinery, original paint layering or natural timber patination, classical architectural proportions, and hand-cut glass displaying mild distortion or natural silvering oxidisation.

Position the mirror directly above a chimneypiece or console table to establish a central focal point, combining classical architectural structure with contemporary furnishings.

Dust the timber frame using a soft, dry lint-free cloth, avoiding moisture or harsh chemicals that could damage historic paint layers, and clean the glass plate with specialised mirror spray applied directly to a cloth.
