Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A girandole is an ornate wall mirror fitted with integrated candle branches or sconces, designed to reflect illumination across a room. Popularised in the 18th and 19th centuries, these pieces served both functional lighting and decorative purposes.

Traditional Victorian girandoles were constructed using carved wood or moulded gesso over softwood frames, finished with applied gold leaf gilding. The reflective surface was made from silvered mirror glass, accompanied by metal or gilded wood candle arms.

Authentic period examples display hand-carved structural elements, genuine gold leaf wear revealing underlying red or yellow clay bole, and plaster-based gesso. The glass pane often exhibits minor foxing, dark spotting, or subtle distortion consistent with age.

Position the mirror above a console table, mantelpiece, or within an entryway to maximise natural and artificial light reflection. The ornate gilded detailing provides a refined visual contrast when paired against neutral or dark contemporary walls.

Dust the frame regularly using a soft, dry brush or clean microfibre cloth, avoiding liquids or chemical detergents that damage gold leaf. Clean the mirror glass carefully with a lightly dampened cloth, preventing moisture from contacting the gilded frame.
