Description

Nice clean early 19th century Georgian mahogany toilet or dressing mirror. Bow fronted base with three drawers standing on original shaped bracket feet. The drawers are all mahogany lined, the two small ones with original turned rosewood knobs and the middle one with original lock and working key. The drawers all have a fancy boxwood and ebony line around the edges. The mirror base is also boxwood strung around the edge.

The oblong mirror has the same boxwood and ebony line around it as the drawers. The uprights have a multi reeded face with lovely shape turned wooden finials at the top. The mirror plate is clean. It's just that bit better than average.

The mirror is in good condition and is a nice colour with waxed finish.

A Georgian dressing mirror is a tabletop vanity glass dating from the 18th or early 19th century, typically featuring a swivelling frame mounted on a small base fitted with drawers.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany, frequently featuring secondary woods like pine or oak, and often embellished with decorative veneer stringing and brass hardware.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, old secondary wood liners, hand-bevelled glass with subtle imperfections, and signs of age-related oxidisation on the timber and mirror plate.

This item functions effectively as a functional vanity accessory on a modern chest of drawers, a console table, or a desk, adding warmth, texture, and historical contrast to a room.

Maintain the timber by applying microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish the wood, and clean the glass gently with a soft cloth and mild glass cleaner, avoiding harsh chemicals on the antique finish.
