This French Louis XV revival vitrine display cabinet dates from 1890 and is constructed from mahogany and kingwood with a warm brown finish. The double serpentine front features a glazed centre door flanked by curved side glass panels and stepped cornices. Gilded ormolu mounts accentuate the top crest, the door edges, the corners, and the six cabriole legs, which terminate in ormolu sabots. Below the main display area, six parquetry panels decorate the lower section in a geometric pattern. The interior contains four plate glass shelves against a light-coloured fabric lining. Measuring 209 cm high, 150 cm wide, and 58.5 cm deep, this large standing cabinet provides enclosed shelving for a living room, dining room, or hallway to display porcelain, glassware, or decorative objects. The piece functions as a focal point in a traditional interior, combining glass display space with lower wooden cabinet storage while resting directly on the floor.

A vitrine is a glazed display cabinet originating in 18th-century France, designed to showcase precious curiosities, porcelain, and collectibles behind protective glass panels.

Traditional French vitrines feature fine hardwood veneers such as kingwood, tulipwood, or walnut, decorated with parquetry marquetry, cast ormolu brass mounts, and glass shelves.

Louis XV style vitrines are identified by their serpentine fronts, sweeping cabriole legs, decorative parquetry veneer patterns, and gilded bronze acanthus or floral mounts.

Place a French vitrine as a statement feature in a living room, dining space, or grand hallway, displaying curated ceramics, glassware, or art books to create visual texture.

Maintain the timber veneer by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying natural beeswax annually, while cleaning glass panels with ammonia-free cleaners applied directly to a cloth.
