FAQs

Originating in the late 19th century, the Arts and Crafts movement championed traditional craftsmanship, natural materials, and reform against mass production, frequently featuring hand-beaten metalwork and organic motifs.

Pieces from this era typically employed solid brass, copper, or pewter, often worked by hand using repousse and chasing techniques, paired with bevelled mirror glass secured within a robust metal or wooden frame.

Authentic items often display subtle tool marks, hand-riveted joints, natural patination on the metal surface, and traditional backings such as secured wooden boards with vintage fixings.

Position the piece as a focal point above a simple mantelpiece or console table to introduce historical texture, allowing the metallic finish to contrast against neutral or deeply painted walls.

Clean the glass with a lint-free cloth and mild glass cleaner, avoiding abrasive polishes on the brass frame to preserve the natural historic patina and prevent damage to the metallic finish.
