Description

This black painted teak toolbox is very well made with fine tolerances, it has a tray with handles that fits tightly into the box and locks on both ends with keys. I think it is for the running board of a car from the 1920s or 30s, there are no markings to indicate what car but the quality of the piece would indicate an expensive one.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Running board toolboxes were utilised in early motoring history to provide external storage for tools and spare parts when onboard boot space was minimal.

These utility boxes were typically constructed from durable hardwoods such as teak or oak to withstand weather exposure, often finished with protective black paint and metal hardware.

Authenticity is determined by period-correct construction methods, appropriate wear patterns on the paint, and mounting brackets designed for specific early vehicle chassis.

Such industrial pieces can be repurposed as coffee table storage, mantel accents, or functional decorative storage within utilitarian or masculine interior schemes.

Preservation involves maintaining stable humidity levels, cleaning with a soft dry cloth, and applying microcrystalline wax to protect the aged wooden and painted surfaces without altering the patina.
