Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Nineteenth-century mirrors often combine rich walnut veneers or solids with gilded gesso or carved wooden ornaments, drawing inspiration from earlier Georgian and Continental design motifs.

These pieces typically feature a secondary timber base such as pine or oak, faced with walnut veneer or solid walnut mouldings, accented with hand-carved wooden or composition ornamentation finished in gold leaf or gilt paint.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the construction joints, the presence of hand-beveled or original silvered mirror plate with natural oxidisation, and traditional hand-tool marks on the reverse framework.

Such a mirror can serve as a focal point above a fireplace mantel or console table, contrasting traditional craftsmanship with clean-lined modern furnishings to add depth and historical character.

Preserve the finish by keeping the mirror away from direct sunlight and high humidity, dusting gently with a dry microfiber cloth, and avoiding chemical cleaners on both the gilt surface and the glass.
