Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 19TH CENTURY:
Pierced brass gallery secured with single-slotted screws: metalwork before modern cross-head fixings.
Bowed glass side panels and curved door: cabinet work of the late nineteenth century.
Cast and chased gilt-brass mounts: classic French Louis XVI revival decorative work.
Tapered fluted legs with brass collars: typical neoclassical styling of the late Victorian era.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This nineteenth-century French Louis XVI style display cabinet stands as an oval vitrine constructed from warm brown mahogany with gilded ormolu mounts and glass panels. A pierced brass gallery crowns the top, above a gilded frieze and a bowed central glass door with a tassel-trimmed key hanging from the lock. The interior displays a single glass shelf and a pale cream fabric-upholstered base. Below the main cabinet, turned and inlaid supports with brass collars and ormolu mounts hold a kidney-shaped lower wooden shelf bordered by a low brass gallery, finishing in tapered turned feet. Standing 142 cm high by 76 cm wide by 51 cm deep, this refined vitrine suits formal reception rooms, elegant hallways or drawing rooms for the display of fine porcelain, silver or collectables. The polished timber finish reflects light across the glass door and curved side panels, while the intricate brass and ormolu decoration adds classical French detail to the traditional silhouette.

A French Louis XVI style vitrine cabinet typically features clean neoclassical lines, geometric symmetry, turned tapered legs, and decorative gilded bronze ormolu mounts framing glass panels designed for displaying valuables.

These cabinets are predominantly constructed using solid mahogany or fine mahogany veneers, fitted with hand-blown or cut glass panels, brass galleries, and gilded bronze mounts.

Authentic pieces feature heavy, detailed cast bronze mounts with original gilding, hand-cut dovetail joinery in the timber frame, and authentic period hardware including working lever locks.

Position the cabinet as a standalone focal piece against a neutral wall, utilizing its glass shelves to display modern ceramic collections, books, or sculptured art objects.

Dust the wood using a soft microfiber cloth and clean glass panels with a non-ammonia liquid applied directly to a cloth. Avoid chemical polish on gilded bronze elements to preserve the original patina.
