FAQs

A vitrine is a glazed display cabinet originating in France during the 18th century, designed specifically to showcase collectibles, china, and precious curiosities while protecting them from dust.

Mid-19th-century French vitrines were predominantly constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, featuring glass panels, carved timber pediments, and fitted interior shelving.

Authentic pieces display hand-carved scrollwork, traditional joinery, original wavy cylinder glass panes, and genuine patination along the timber joints and interior surfaces.

Place the cabinet in a dining room or living space as a focal piece, filled with curated contemporary ceramics, vintage glassware, or rare books to contrast historical craftsmanship with modern decor.

Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping, polish the wood annually with natural beeswax, and clean glass panels using a lint-free cloth.
