Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE GEORGIAN ERA:
Hand-cut dovetails on the drawer: hand cabinet work before machine cutting.
Circular mark behind the handle: ghost imprint left by an earlier wooden knob.
Hand-planed secondary boards beneath the drawer: traditional hand-tool work.
Shaped X-form stretcher: typical framework for a late eighteenth-century washstand.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This Georgian mahogany bedside table dates from circa 1800 and functions as a small night stand. It is constructed from solid mahogany with warm brown wood tones, exhibiting a later replacement top, visible signs of age including marks and wear commensurate with its period, and an old solid mend to the under-tier. Details comprise a square top, a scalloped apron beneath the upper tier, an open middle shelf, a single frieze drawer fitted with a central brass drop handle, a concave cross-stretcher connecting four straight square legs, and an original patina. The piece measures 79 cm high, 33 cm wide, and 33 cm deep. It suits placement in an empty corner as a bedside table, next to a desk, or as a lamp table in a home setting.

Georgian bedside tables and washstands were developed during the 18th century, originally functioning as washstands, basin stands, or pot cupboards in bedchambers. They typically feature solid mahogany construction, tray top rims, lower tiers, and small drawers for storage.

Craftsmen primarily used solid timber such as Cuban and West Indian mahogany, frequently paired with oak or pine drawer linings. Hardware was generally cast from brass, including drop handles, swan-neck pulls, or castors.

Authentic Georgian furniture features hand-cut dovetail joints, original oak or pine secondary woods, and heavy dense timber. Surface patination reflects natural ageing, with hand-hammered brass fittings and hand-planed underside construction.

These compact tables serve as versatile accents alongside contemporary upholstered seating, in hallway corners, or as bedroom nightstands. Placing contemporary ceramics or table lamps on the top surface creates a balanced contrast between period craftsmanship and modern decor.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying beeswax every six to twelve months. Avoid placing items near direct heat sources or in direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, movement, and finish fading.
