Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This antique Georgian style bedside cabinet table originates from 1900 and displays a rich brown mahogany timber. The piece takes the form of a cabinet with two drop-leaf side flaps, a single cupboard door secured with a small brass ring pull handle, straight upright legs, and a low open undertier shelf positioned near the floor. The timber surfaces show visible grain patterns, clean mouldings around the door panel, and brass hardware. Measuring 74.3 cm high, 40.7 cm wide, and 38.1 cm deep with dimensions expanding to 69.8 cm wide when the leaves are raised, this compact furnishing functions practically as a bedside table or side stand in a bedroom, living room, or hallway setting to hold lamps, books, or decorative objects.

FAQs

Originally developed in the eighteenth century, pot cupboards were bedside cabinets designed to discreetly store chamber pots before indoor plumbing became standard. Over time, these functional pieces evolved into refined bedside tables with drop leaves, drawers, and lower shelving for general storage.

Authentic period examples are typically constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine or oak carcases. Key features include hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-turned brass hardware, and mortise-and-tenon joinery along the leg frame and lower tiers.

Inspect the interior and underside for signs of hand-planed timber, original brass hinges, and age-related shrinkage in the solid wood panels. Authentic pieces often display natural patination, subtle colour variations, and non-uniform construction methods typical of pre-industrial cabinetmaking.

These versatile cabinets function well as nightstands beside modern bed frames or as end tables in a living space. Contrast the rich reddish-brown tone of the polished mahogany with neutral upholstery, contemporary lamps, or simple ceramic decorative objects.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber finish. Position the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent uneven fading and timber warping.
