This Georgian mahogany tea caddy is a nineteenth-century English country house piece fashioned from rich warm brown timber. The cubic form displays a hinged lid with a delicate brass loop handle, contrasted against darker cross-banded side panels and precise ebony stringing. A polished brass latch sits on the front edge, while the wood grain shows subtle variations in tone across every surface. The tidy dimensions measure 11.5 cm high, 9.5 cm wide, and 9.5 cm deep. In a modern interior, this compact box sits comfortably atop a living room sideboard or a hallway console table as an eye-catching decorative accent. The refined proportions and classic materials allow it to blend seamlessly with both traditional and transitional domestic schemes. Collectors of period wooden smalls will appreciate the clean lines and authentic hardware details which reflect its traditional heritage. It provides a touch of historic character to everyday spaces without overwhelming the surrounding decor.

A Georgian tea caddy is a small lockable container, typically crafted from timber, designed during the 18th and early 19th centuries to store imported tea leaves securely.

Mahogany, rosewood, satinwood, and walnut were frequently selected, often accented with brass handles or escutcheons, crossbanded veneers, and interior foil linings.

Authentic pieces display period-appropriate joinery such as fine hand-cut dovetails, original brass hardware showing natural patination, and smooth wear patterns on the underside.

Display the caddy on a sideboard, console, or mantelpiece alongside contemporary glass or ceramics to build rich visual texture and historical depth.

Position the caddy away from central heating and direct light, dust gently using a microfiber cloth, and apply a light layer of beeswax polish once annually.
