Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Anglo-Indian card box dates from 1880 and originates from Vizagapatam in South India. Fashioned in warm amber brown sandalwood and ivory with metal hardware, the rectangular piece exhibits a hinged lid centred by a shaped lozenge worked with Lord Ganesha, detailed penwork-engraved ivory borders, a keyhole escutcheon fitted with a key, and carved ivory lion-paw feet. The object measures 6 cm high, 23 cm wide, and 13.5 cm deep. Today, this card box finds a practical place on an office desk or library table to store stationery, visiting cards, or small keepsakes. The compact container brings nineteenth-century craftsmanship into a modern study, study table, or reception area as a functional decorative accessory.

Produced in the Coromandel coast port town of Vizagapatam in India, these items were crafted by local artisans for European buyers, combining native woods with detailed ivory or bone inlay tailored to Western furniture forms.

Artisans predominantly used aromatic sandalwood, teak, and exotic native woods, embellished with incised ivory or bone panels, black lac penwork, and metal fittings.

Authentic pieces feature detailed dark penwork motifs depicting flora, fauna, or architectural scenes on ivory or bone inlays, along with hand-carved paw feet and traditional joinery.

Place the box on a library desk, coffee table, or sideboard as a functional container for small trinkets or as an accent piece alongside contemporary books and ceramics.

Store the item in a stable environment away from direct sunlight, central heating, and excess humidity to prevent the wood from warping and the inlays from loosening.
