This Edwardian bedside cabinet is made from warm brown mahogany with satinwood and ebony stringing inlay. The piece has a rectangular top, square tapered legs, and a single panelled cupboard door fitted with a brass drop handle and keyhole escutcheon. General wear and marks commensurate with age are visible, alongside a small old mend to the veneer near the top of the door and a maker's number stamped to the back. Measuring 75 cm high, 42 cm wide, and 36 cm deep, this compact antique cabinet fits neatly beside a bed or at the end of a sofa in a living room. The enclosed storage space behind the door keeps daily essentials tucked away out of sight while adding traditional English country house character to the interior.

Edwardian furniture, produced between 1901 and 1910, is characterised by lighter, more delicate proportions than earlier Victorian styles. Cabinetmakers frequently drew inspiration from 18th-century Neoclassical designs, incorporating mahogany, satinwood crossbanding, floral marquetry, and slender tapered legs.

Edwardian bedside cabinets and pot cupboards were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, accented with satinwood or boxwood stringing inlay. Fittings were typically cast in brass, featuring drop handles or simple turn knobs.

Authentic Edwardian pieces feature precise, hand-finished satinwood inlay and fine grain arrangement across the door panels and tops. Examination of the interior construction reveals authentic turn-of-the-century joinery, secondary timbers such as pine or mahogany drawer linings, and natural age-related patination.

An antique bedside cabinet can serve as a nightstand beside a modern upholstered bed or as an occasional side table next to an armchair. Combining polished dark wood with neutral linens, modern ceramics, and contemporary task lighting creates a balanced scheme.

Mahogany furniture should be dusted regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and polished twice yearly with beeswax to protect the wood finish. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping or veneer bleaching.
