Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 19TH CENTURY:
Pierced scrollwork galleries cut by hand: late Qing export and scholar's taste.
Traditional wooden pivot door hinges: Chinese cabinetmaking before modern metal hinges.
Asymmetrical stepped shelf layout: designed for showing curios in the late 19th century.
Shrinkage gaps along the mitred door frames: natural timber movement over decades.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Chinese Qing style hardwood display cabinet showcases a dark reddish brown finish with visible wood grain variations. The structure presents a pierced scrollwork gallery along the top edge, asymmetrical open shelving arranged across multiple levels, turned support columns, and panelled cupboard doors alongside carved drawer fronts with brass hardware. The arrangement includes two small upper cupboards on the left, a pair of lower right cupboards, and two small drawers situated at the very base. Measuring 99 cm high by 80 cm wide and 20 cm deep, the unit provides compact storage and presentation space. Positioned within a study, living room, or hallway, this cabinet serves to display small ornaments, books, or decorative objects while adding traditional craftsmanship to an interior. The open compartments allow for varied arrangements of items, whilst the enclosed cupboards and drawers offer concealed storage for smaller household items. The slim depth suits narrower spaces against interior walls.

A duobaoge, or cabinet of many treasures, is a traditional Chinese display shelf characterised by asymmetrical open compartments designed to present art objects, ceramics, and jade carvings.

These pieces are typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods such as rosewood, zitan, or chicken-wing wood, assembled using precise mortise and tenon joinery without the use of metal nails.

Authentic period construction relies on complex interlocking wooden joints, floating panel construction to accommodate humidity changes, and hand-carved decorative motifs rather than modern glues or mechanical fasteners.

Place the unit against a neutral backdrop to highlight its silhouette, using the staggered shelves to display minimalist ceramics, glass vessels, or books to create a balanced, curated focal point.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage or cracking. Clean dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and nourish the timber periodically with natural beeswax polish.
