Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Edwardian kidney-shaped tables gained popularity during the early 20th century, drawing heavy inspiration from French Louis XV forms and 18th-century English Sheraton designs. They feature a distinctive crescent profile with delicate proportions, often embellished with neoclassical marquetry and stringing.

These tables were primarily constructed using dense mahogany or rich mahogany veneers. Decorative inlays incorporated contrasting timbers such as satinwood, boxwood, rosewood, and ebony, along with small brass drawer pulls or castors.

Authenticity can be verified by examining the construction details, such as hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, hand-cut veneer layers, and period-appropriate wear patterns on the underside and feet. The marquetry usually shows subtle variations in colour and grain inherent to antique timber.

A small kidney-shaped table works well as an accent piece in a living room, positioned alongside a sofa, placed within a window bay, or utilized as an elegant bedside table. Its compact curved footprint allows it to soften sharp geometric lines in modern spaces.

Maintain the surface by dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the thin timber veneers from drying out or lifting.
