Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

This folk art wall mirror originates from 1920 and showcases a distinct rustic farmhouse style with warm brown tones throughout its frame. The square construction employs layers of textured dark cork bark and wood, finished with intricate hand-carved rosettes, notched geometric patterns on the corners, and prominent protruding finials at each apex. The glass plate exhibits significant foxing and age-related distressing, while the perimeter reveals minor losses to the cork elements consistent with its age and handling. Measuring 38 cm high by 35 cm wide, the piece hangs compactly in domestic spaces. Placed in a hallway, bedroom, or above a sideboard in a living room, it brings tactile folk art character and reflective depth to neutral or panelled walls.

FAQs

Tramp art is a genre of folk art that flourished in North America and Europe from the late nineteenth century through the 1930s, characterised by layered, notch-carved wood or natural materials such as cork and bark.

Artisans primarily used accessible or reclaimed softwoods from cigar boxes and shipping crates, as well as natural tree bark and cork, layered using simple hand tools.

Authentic pieces feature notch-carved geometric layers, visible hand-assembled construction, age-appropriate surface oxidation, and original mirrored glass displaying genuine foxing.

These mirrors function as textural focal points when positioned in entryways, above sideboards, or integrated into eclectic gallery walls to add organic tactile contrast.

Dust gently using a soft, dry bristle brush to clean recessed carved areas, taking care to avoid liquid cleaning agents on natural bark or harsh chemicals on antiqued mirror glass.
