This nineteenth-century Victorian credenza side cabinet is constructed from warm brown burr walnut with ormolu mounts, boxwood inlay, and glass. The bow-fronted centre section holds a solid timber door decorated with central marquetry inlay, subtle banding, and gilded embellishments, flanked by two serpentine curved glass doors displaying original faded velvet lining on the interior shelves. Cast brass mounts adorn the upper corners and stiles, complementing the book-matched burr walnut top finished with a quality cast brass gallery. The entire structure stands upon a conforming shaped plinth base with working locks and keys, presenting visible golden-brown wood grain patterns alongside metallic accents. Measuring 108 cm high, 152 cm wide, and 46 cm deep, this piece provides generous storage surface and display capacity for a formal drawing room, dining room, or hallway. It integrates seamlessly into traditional or classic interiors as a sophisticated focal point for displaying decorative objects or storing fine tableware.

A Victorian burr walnut credenza is a mid-to-late 19th-century storage piece featuring highly figured walnut veneer sourced from tree burls, decorated with floral marquetry inlay, ormolu mounts, and glass-fronted side cupboards.

These cabinets were constructed using solid timber frames covered with hand-cut burr walnut veneers, brass or bronze ormolu castings, boxwood marquetry inlays, and fitted with bent glass panels for the side display sections.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joinery, hand-planed core framing, thick wood veneers rather than modern thin laminates, age-appropriate patination on metal mounts, and individual irregularities in the glass panels.

Position the credenza as an anchor piece in a hallway or dining area, styling the top with modern ceramics or contemporary artwork to contrast with the detailed woodwork and marquetry motifs.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply high-quality beeswax sparingly once a year to nourish the timber, and keep the piece positioned away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting or discolouration.
