Windsor chairs originated in rural England during the early 18th century, evolving from vernacular furniture traditions where spindles and legs were wedged directly into a solid wooden seat.

Traditional Windsor chairs typically feature a combination of native timbers, utilising resilient yew, elm, or ash for seats and bentwood components, combined with beech or fruitwood for spindles and turned legs.

Authenticity is identified through construction methods such as wedged through-tennons, hand-sculpted saddle seats, patinated timber surfaces, and tool marks indicative of period craftsmanship rather than modern mass production.

These chairs add organic warmth and historical contrast when paired with sleek, modern dining tables or utilised as standalone accent seating in a minimalist living space.

Preserve antique wood by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources, applying occasional microcrystalline wax, and avoiding harsh chemical cleaning agents.
